Prepare Safely for UV Lamp Replacement
UV lamps are fragile, and the chamber may be warm or pressurized. Gather the correct lamp, any approved O-rings, clean gloves, and the manufacturer's instructions before starting.
Shut down power and water first
Turn off electrical power at the unit and unplug it if the system design allows. Then close the water supply valves and relieve pressure according to the manual. Give the lamp time to cool before touching the chamber.
Handle the new lamp carefully. Oils from bare fingers can leave residue on the glass, so use clean gloves or a lint-free cloth. Keep the lamp away from hard surfaces and never look directly at an energized UV lamp.
Reassemble slowly and check for leaks
Install the lamp and sleeve parts in the order shown in your manual. Check O-rings for wear, debris, or flattening, then lubricate them only if the manufacturer permits it.
After reassembly, restore water flow slowly and inspect the chamber connections for leaks. Wait until the chamber is full of water before restoring power. Finally, reset the lamp-life timer if your controller has that feature.
Water Quality Can Shorten UV System Performance
UV treatment works best with clear water. Sediment, hardness scale, iron, manganese, and cloudy water can shield microorganisms or coat the quartz sleeve. A prefilter or other treatment step may be necessary before the UV chamber.
